Principal Software Engineer

📋 Description

• Establish technical direction across various products and platforms, encompassing AI infrastructure, data platforms, and shared primitives.

• Personally develop components and primitives that enhance leverage for other teams.

• Guide AI coding agents through actual, multi-step engineering tasks.

• Determine what qualifies as shared infrastructure and make build-vs-buy decisions that influence the roadmap.

• Collaborate in defining prompt libraries, MCP server patterns, AI-generated code quality gates, and human-agent collaboration methodologies.

• Design secure and governed Model Context Protocol integrations for internal APIs, data sources, and platform services.

• Propel convergence on strategic standards and streamline technology ecosystems.

• Institutionalize prioritization mechanisms, AI launch checklists, and SLOs.

• Lead critical one-way-door decisions while maintaining contingency plans.

• Advise teams on investment priorities, establish success metrics, and pinpoint tasks to discontinue.

• Standardize canonical metrics, AI evaluation frameworks, minimum sample sizes, and guardrail dashboards.

• Co-define responsible AI guardrails and review processes for high-risk applications.

• Revamp legacy systems into scalable, cloud-native, agent-ready services.

• Define security protocols and collaborate with Risk, Security, and Compliance teams to protect sensitive member data.

• Mentor staff-level and senior engineers, shaping technical leadership standards among individual contributors.

• Collaborate across technology domains, business teams, and offices in a highly cooperative environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8 to 12 years of experience in full-stack development and architecture, specifically in building web applications and services, with technical leadership extending beyond a single team.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

• Recent, hands-on experience in personally building and deploying functional software within the last year or two.

• Advanced, hands-on proficiency with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot, including the ability to direct them through larger, multi-step tasks.

• Proven track record of developing AI coding agent practices that are widely adopted.

• Strong proficiency in two or more of TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, and C#/.NET.

• Experience with contemporary frontend frameworks like React, Next.js, Vue, or Angular.

• Extensive knowledge of RESTful API design, distributed systems, and microservices at scale.

• Experience in cloud-native delivery on AWS, Azure, or GCP, including multi-region or hybrid deployments.

• In-depth hands-on experience with the Model Context Protocol, prompt engineering for code, and AI building blocks like Azure AI Foundry, RAG, LangChain, GraphRAG, or GraphDB.

• Production experience with real-time streaming and distributed messaging systems such as Redis, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.

• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.

• Advanced knowledge of CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and modern DevOps or SRE practices.

• History of mentoring senior engineers and elevating standards through frameworks and practices.

• Ability to articulate complex AI and architectural concepts clearly to executives and non-technical stakeholders.
