This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Define the instructional vision and progression of Read 180, an intervention tool for students in grades 3–12.
• Create unified teacher-led and student-facing experiences across both print and digital platforms.
• Incorporate science-of-reading principles and adolescent literacy research into instructional design and product direction.
• Develop explicit instruction, meaningful practice, differentiation, and responsive support tailored for diverse intervention students.
• Design instructional models, lesson frameworks, component specifications, and design standards.
• Write, edit, and refine lessons, instructional routines, student activities, teacher support materials, and digital learning experiences.
• Oversee the selection, development, and enhancement of student-oriented texts and multimedia resources.
• Assess coherence among texts, instruction, practice, assessment, and adaptive learning pathways.
• Review content from internal teams, contractors, and vendors, providing actionable feedback.
• Ensure accuracy, consistency, accessibility, inclusivity, and instructional quality.
• Utilize feedback from students and teachers, product data, and efficacy findings to enhance instructional methods.
• Support content models, metadata, authoring specifications, and reusable digital instructional frameworks.
• Collaborate with Learning Experience, Product Management, Research, Design, Assessment, Engineering, Accessibility, Editorial, Professional Services, and customer-facing teams.
• Mentor and guide Learning Experience Designers.
• Conduct instructional reviews, facilitate decision-making, and address complex challenges in content and learning experience design.
• Establish models, exemplars, guidelines, and quality metrics for the program.
• Communicate instructional decisions and the rationale behind research to cross-functional partners and senior stakeholders.
• Partner with researchers, educators, and customers to identify needs and validate solutions.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in developing adolescent literacy curriculum, reading intervention solutions, or related instructional products within a publishing, edtech, or curriculum development organization.
• Proven experience in designing cohesive teacher-led and student-facing learning experiences across both print and digital formats for students in grades 3–12.
• In-depth knowledge of adolescent literacy development and students reading below grade level.
• Strong grasp of current science-of-reading research and its application to older readers, including comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, word recognition, morphology, knowledge building, and motivation.
• Extensive experience in designing explicit, scaffolded instruction and intervention for diverse learners.
• Excellent instructional writing and editing capabilities.
• Experience managing complex instructional projects and mentoring curriculum developers or Learning Experience Designers.
• Competence in evaluating instruction across teacher resources, student materials, assessments, and digital experiences.
• Proven ability to collaborate with product managers, designers, researchers, engineers, editors, and cross-functional partners.
• Capacity to leverage research, customer insights, student performance data, and product usage data to guide instructional decisions.
• Familiarity with digital authoring tools, content management systems, and iterative product development processes.
• Strong skills in communication, facilitation, decision-making, and stakeholder management.
• Bachelor's degree in literacy, reading education, curriculum and instruction, instructional design, English language arts, special education, or a related field.
• Preferred: Master's degree or advanced certification in reading, literacy, curriculum and instruction, special education, or a related field.
• Preferred: Direct classroom or intervention experience with adolescent readers.
• Preferred: Reading specialist certification or comparable literacy credentials.
• Preferred: Experience in developing intensive or Tier 2 and Tier 3 reading interventions.
• Preferred: Experience with adaptive learning systems, educational technology, accessibility standards, and digital content creation.
• Preferred: Familiarity with Read 180 or other established adolescent literacy intervention programs.
• Preferred: Experience supporting efficacy studies, curriculum evaluations, or state and district instructional reviews.
• Salary range of $90,000 to $100,000.
