Principal Frontend Engineer – Geospatial, WebGL

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the technical vision and architecture for the frontend platform.

• Establish the technical roadmap, design large-scale systems, and ensure alignment of technical goals with business objectives.

• Develop and create high-performance, interactive web applications that include real-time 2D/3D and geospatial visualizations utilizing WebGL.

• Set and uphold standards for clean, efficient, maintainable, and well-tested frontend code.

• Lead and mentor frontend developers, conduct code reviews, and promote technical growth.

• Integrate frontend components with existing products, backend services, and REST APIs.

• Enhance rendering performance, memory usage, and load times for large and intricate datasets.

• Diagnose and resolve complex issues across various browsers and devices, recommending and implementing improvements.

• Generate technical documentation for reference and reporting purposes.

• Tackle the most challenging engineering problems and guide projects involving multiple teams.

• Collaborate with product managers, executives, and technical leads to strategize future software capabilities.

• Manage software-related complaints and work towards effective solutions.

• Analyze data to uncover potential software vulnerabilities or issues.

• Oversee initial software rollouts and updates to guarantee smooth implementation.

• Engage in leadership meetings and contribute to corporate strategy.

• Direct the technical vision, architecture, and end-to-end delivery of complex software systems while ensuring engineering efforts align with business goals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in JavaScript (ES6+ / TypeScript), with a strong understanding of event loop, memory management, closures, asynchronous programming (Promises/Async-Await), and language-level performance optimization.

• Experience in constructing and optimizing real-time map rendering pipelines using WebGL, GLSL shaders, or frameworks like Three.js, CesiumJS, or Mapbox GL.

• Knowledge in processing complex spatial datasets, map projections, coordinate reference systems, and vector/raster tile streams.

• In-depth expertise with at least one major frontend framework such as React, Angular, Vue, or similar.

• Demonstrated experience in designing scalable, resilient frontend architectures and utilizing appropriate design patterns.

• Experience in consuming and integrating REST APIs with established design patterns.

• Strong proficiency in unit testing and modern build/CI tooling.

• Experience in leading, mentoring, or directing the technical strategy of an engineering team.

• Fluency in English is essential.

• Typically requires 10+ years of software development experience with a proven track record of delivering large, complex systems.
