Geospatial Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Design and create software components for a database-first geospatial architecture.

• Develop data models, automated ingestion pipelines, and geospatial services that support the entire NEXRAD network.

• Construct and maintain web applications and dashboards utilizing Esri and/or open-source geospatial technologies.

• Visualize incumbents, interference indicators, 300 km analysis extents, obstruction environments, and site viability statuses.

• Create automated workflows for exporting geospatial data and generating reports, ensuring standardized map and report deliverables at scale.

• Implement automated routines for propagation, line-of-sight, and beam-blockage analysis in collaboration with spectrum engineering and GIS teams.

• Integrate datasets from FCC, FAA, USGS 3DEP, imagery, terrain, clutter, and government-furnished sources through well-documented pipelines.

• Facilitate the ingestion of field-collected survey data, imagery, and frequency measurements into the master database and dashboard.

• Enhance the performance, reliability, and maintainability of geospatial applications and data services.

• Provide support for deployment in Esri and/or cloud environments like AWS.

• Ensure compliance with CUI requirements in software, data handling, and hosting practices.

• Assist a federal client managing a nationwide NEXRAD weather radar network and a spectrum relocation analysis program.

⛳️ Requirements

• US Citizenship is required.

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, GIS/Geospatial Science, or a related discipline (equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree).

• Minimum of 4 years of software development experience, including geospatial application development or geospatial data engineering.

• Proficient in Python and experienced with geospatial libraries and APIs, such as ArcGIS API for Python, GeoPandas, GDAL/OGR, or Shapely.

• Experience in developing web mapping applications using Esri (ArcGIS API for JavaScript, Experience Builder) and/or open-source stacks (Leaflet, OpenLayers, MapLibre).

• Familiarity with spatial databases like PostGIS and experience in building automated ETL/data pipelines.

• Knowledge of version control systems using Git and modern software development and deployment methodologies.

• Working knowledge of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling protocols.

• Ability to travel occasionally (minimal travel required) to support program activities as necessary.

• Preferred: Experience deploying geospatial applications in cloud environments, particularly AWS.

• Preferred: Familiarity with radar, RF, spectrum, or telecommunications data and analysis.

• Preferred: Familiarity with open RF data standards such as SigMF or scientific data formats.

• Preferred: Prior experience supporting a federal agency with mission-critical infrastructure or geospatial programs.

• Preferred: Experience automating report and map production from a centralized geospatial database.

• Preferred: Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise administration or geospatial server/service configuration.
