Principal Engineer I, Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee and guide a team of data engineers, offering technical direction and expertise.

• Work alongside architecture, leadership, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to design and execute data solutions that align with business goals.

• Ensure the data infrastructure is scalable, dependable, and secure for analytics and reporting purposes.

• Manage data pipelines, ETL processes, and integration of data across various systems.

• Ensure compliance with F.H.I.R. standards for healthcare interoperability.

• Monitor data quality and implement governance practices to uphold high data integrity.

• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to facilitate advanced analytics and machine learning projects.

• Advocate for emerging data technologies and best practices.

• Identify and execute opportunities for code refactoring and enhancements.

• Convert high-level data architecture concepts into actionable plans and projects.

• Tackle data-related challenges and seize opportunities across cross-functional teams.

• Promote knowledge sharing and continuous learning among team members.

• Engage in systems thinking and evaluate the organizational impacts of data modifications.

• Proactively address data security and compliance obligations.

• Maintain regular and dependable attendance.

• Perform other related tasks as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in data engineering or a related discipline, with a strong focus on healthcare data systems.

• Significant experience in data warehousing, ETL processes, and data integration.

• Specific expertise in F.H.I.R./HL7 standards for healthcare interoperability.

• Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms; AWS is preferred.

• Preferred experience with data migration and transformation tools (DMS, Glue, Redshift Spectrum, DBT, etc.).

• Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages, particularly Python and SQL.

• Understanding of data modeling and data architecture principles.

• Experience with Kafka is an advantage.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related field.

• Additional training or certification in healthcare data standards is preferred.

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

• Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and guide a team.

• Proactive approach to problem-solving.

• Experience with event-driven architecture principles and Apache Kafka.

• Extensive SQL experience and working knowledge of both relational and non-relational databases.

• Foundational understanding of advanced data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.

• Proven experience executing complex projects in agile settings.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, dynamic environments.

• Significant practical experience with test-driven development (TDD).

• Familiarity with monitoring and analytics tools for performance measurement and system enhancement.
