Principal Engineer, Developer Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the vision, technical strategy, and implementation of Allstate's Developer Experience initiative.

• Ensure that engineers have access to contemporary, secure, and efficient development tools and platforms.

• Collect feedback from the engineering community and drive enhancements that minimize friction and boost productivity.

• Engage in technical discussions, develop prototypes, champion automation initiatives, and improve platform functionalities.

• Assess, validate, and oversee the governance of developer tools, plugins, frameworks, and platform capabilities prior to enterprise-wide adoption.

• Advocate for AI-assisted software development, including tools such as GitHub Copilot and emerging agentic engineering technologies.

• Collaborate with engineering leaders, architects, platform teams, and product stakeholders to establish a cohesive development experience.

• Promote innovation through experimentation, proof-of-concept initiatives, technical demonstrations, and evaluation of new technologies.

• Set metrics and KPIs for developer productivity, platform uptake, engineering satisfaction, and operational excellence.

• Build and lead high-performing teams while promoting technical excellence, learning, innovation, and a customer-focused mindset.

• Shape enterprise-wide engineering standards, best practices, and technology choices.

• Lead globally distributed and cross-functional teams in delivering modern engineering capabilities.

• Experience in influencing vendor roadmaps and product strategies.

• Over 12 years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles in engineering organizations, platform engineering teams, or developer experience functions.

• Practical experience in software development and direct engagement with developer platforms, automation tools, and cloud-native technologies.

• Familiarity with GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted engineering tools, large language models, and emerging agentic development capabilities.

• A solid understanding of the complete software development lifecycle and contemporary engineering practices.

• Capacity to influence senior technical leaders and drive the adoption of new technologies and engineering methodologies.

• Experience in presenting technical concepts, facilitating demonstrations, and directly engaging with engineering communities.

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.

• Supervisory responsibilities are included.

• Candidates must undergo a background investigation.
