Principal Backend Engineer, Enterprise Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the long-term technical strategy for Enterprise Platform functionalities, which encompass licensing and entitlements, user access and account management, onboarding and provisioning, notifications, as well as MSP/MSSP client and sub-client workflows.

• Direct the architecture for multi-tenant services and account structures, including parent-child dynamics, permissions, product accessibility, usage limitations, and asset distribution.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and business leaders on technical priorities and investment strategies.

• Spearhead high-impact, cross-team technical projects from initial ambiguity to sustainable solutions.

• Engage in design reviews, code reviews, technical assessments, and provide hands-on contributions to essential systems.

• Enhance production reliability and maintainability through testing, observability, monitoring, alerting, safe deployments, incident learning, runbooks, and support documentation.

• Balance product development with operational support, on-call health, and long-term platform investments.

• Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders while creating reusable technical guidance.

• Convey architecture, risks, and decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Develop and manage foundational services that drive NodeZero’s customer and partner experiences.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Extensive professional experience in software engineering, particularly in building and operating production backend services.

• Proven technical leadership and influence that extends beyond a single team.

• Experience in designing APIs and data models for multi-tenant or customer-facing SaaS platforms.

• In-depth experience in developing and managing backend services using Python, Go, Java, or TypeScript.

• Strong proficiency in SQL and relational data modeling.

• Familiarity with API and service design for production environments.

• Experience in building cloud-hosted services.

• Experience in operating containerized applications like Docker.

• Knowledge of Kubernetes or similar orchestration tools.

• Consistent technical contributions across multiple teams, including shaping the technical direction at the company level.

• Extensive experience with backend services or multi-tenant SaaS platforms, including production ownership of critical business systems.

• Strong architectural judgment regarding complex data models, distributed systems, security, reliability, and scalability trade-offs.

• History of building trust with senior technical, product, and business stakeholders.

• Proven track record of enhancing engineering quality and cultivating senior technical talent through influence and mentorship.

• Up to 5% travel may be required.
