Principal AI-Native Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina, +6 more states.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with subject-matter experts from portfolio companies to transform functional specifications into effective agentic system designs.

• Develop agent architectures, encompassing boundaries, orchestration, control flow, tools, state, memory, human-in-the-loop placements, and model versus deterministic logic.

• Create, deploy, and manage production agentic systems that facilitate real business functions from start to finish.

• Enhance and solidify the in-house orchestration framework.

• Optimize automated development and QA agents within the engineering pipeline.

• Generate and maintain machine-readable context artifacts related to products, customers, processes, and operational data.

• Design strategies for retrieval and context assembly while managing context budgets.

• Integrate agentic systems with product codebases, CRMs, ERPs, support desks, data warehouses, and internal services.

• Establish success criteria and develop evaluation harnesses, baselines, regression suites, and human-review sampling.

• Equip systems with tracing and observability features.

• Construct guardrails, fallbacks, retries, circuit breakers, approval gates, audit trails, and rollback paths.

• Monitor token and tool costs, designing for sustainable unit economics at full volume.

• Analyze evaluation trends, cost curves, and production failure patterns.

• Investigate and address regressions, incidents, and quality degradation.

• Adapt deployed systems as business processes evolve.

• Quickly familiarize yourself with unfamiliar production codebases and extend them safely.

• Extract reusable components, patterns, and abstractions across various functions and companies.

• Assess emerging models, frameworks, agentic techniques, and tools against actual workloads.

• Establish practices for responsible autonomous operation, data exposure, IP protection, security boundaries, and human review.

• Review agentic work throughout the organization and elevate technical standards.

• Articulate system behavior, limitations, and intentions to engineers and operators.

• Phase out ineffective systems and document the rationale behind their retirement.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 8 years of hands-on software engineering experience in building and operating production systems.

• More than 3 years of experience in building AI-Native or agentic systems that have reached production and were utilized for genuine work.

• Proven end-to-end ownership of systems that were designed, built, shipped, operated, and improved over time.

• Experience in integrating AI systems with production codebases, CRMs, ERPs, support, and ticketing systems, data warehouses, and internal services.

• Familiarity with authentication, permissioning, and controls for autonomous systems.

• Proficient in designing and conducting evaluations for non-deterministic systems.

• Experience in building evaluation harnesses, establishing baselines, and identifying regressions.

• Background in operating LLM-based systems in production, including tracing, failure diagnosis, guardrails, and cost management at scale.

• Ability to quickly become productive within large, complex codebases and extend them safely.

• Experience working from specifications provided by domain experts outside the candidate’s area of expertise.

• Background in platform, infrastructure, or developer-tooling work.

• People management experience is not required and does not provide a competitive advantage.

• Nice-to-have: experience with enterprise agentic systems, business-function automation, shared platforms/frameworks, enterprise SaaS or ERP, agentic development or QA workflows, legacy modernization, multi-company work, globally distributed organizations, open-source contributions, technical writing, or public agentic-systems work.
