PHP Engineer, Europe

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Oversee the maintenance and modernization of Atlas, an internal application utilized by analysts to create and publish intelligence content.

• Collaborate on the PHP/Laravel back end as well as the JavaScript/CSS/HTML front end.

• Develop and sustain production features.

• Ensure that dependencies and the framework remain up-to-date.

• Enhance testing, observability, and developer tooling.

• Manage and resolve incidents and defects in production.

• Expand automated tests, continuous integration (CI), and deployment automation.

• Assist in modernizing Atlas on Intel 471’s cloud platform alongside platform and DevOps teams.

• Document system behaviors, dependencies, and runbooks.

• Provide regular updates on project status.

• Work in collaboration with the Director of Engineering and other teams within the company, particularly platform and DevOps.

• Engage with an internationally distributed team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven, substantial professional experience in building and maintaining production PHP systems.

• Practical experience with the Laravel framework, including safe version and dependency upgrades.

• Proficient knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.

• A history of safely enhancing established codebases, focusing on evolution rather than complete rewrites.

• Strong skills in debugging, incident response, and root cause analysis.

• Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL.

• Proficient in Git and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).

• Disciplined in testing practices.

• Capability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks.

• Professional proficiency in written and spoken English (B2 or above).

• Experience in migrating or modernizing existing systems.

• Familiarity with Kafka, S3, Docker/Kubernetes, and AWS.

• Experience with security hardening and dependency management.

• Exposure to cyber threat intelligence, data pipelines, or high-volume ingestion systems.

• Familiarity with React.

• Comfort in utilizing AI coding assistants such as Claude or Codex.

• Willingness to verify identity by showing ID on a video call.
