This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and manage the people roadmap in alignment with company objectives, headcount strategies, and budgetary considerations.
• Provide guidance to the leadership team on organizational structure, team composition, and leadership growth.
• Collaborate with the Finance department on workforce planning, headcount projections, and cost modeling related to personnel.
• Present people metrics to both leadership and the board.
• Oversee, mentor, and nurture the Recruiter.
• Take charge of the complete hiring process, including role definition, sourcing strategy, interview design, and offer negotiation.
• Create a consistent, inclusive, and efficient hiring experience.
• Manage recruitment partners and tools while enhancing the employer brand.
• Design and implement performance review cycles, goal-setting processes, and feedback mechanisms.
• Develop career frameworks, leveling systems, and professional development initiatives.
• Assess and respond to employee engagement while promoting company culture.
• Lead both onboarding and offboarding processes.
• Steward the compensation philosophy, salary ranges, and equity guidelines in collaboration with the CFO.
• Conduct annual compensation reviews and benchmarking.
• Administer benefits programs, manage broker relationships, and oversee open enrollment.
• Supervise HRIS, payroll inputs, and PEO partnerships.
• Ensure adherence to US federal and state employment laws, as well as UK employment laws.
• Maintain employee handbooks, policies, and documentation for both entities.
• Address employee relations issues.
• Assist with audit, diligence, and fundraising efforts by providing accurate people data.
• In the initial 90 days, review processes, build leadership connections, align with the Recruiter, and deliver a 12-month people roadmap.
• Within the first year, implement performance and career frameworks, establish compensation bands and review procedures, scale hiring efforts, and enhance employee engagement and retention.
• Over 8 years of experience in People or HR roles.
• At least 3 years of leadership experience in the function or a significant portion of it at a venture-backed startup (Series A to C).
• Experience supporting teams across the US and UK, or across various US states and at least one international entity.
• Strong understanding of US employment law.
• Proven history of developing people programs from the ground up (performance, compensation, leveling, onboarding).
• Experience in managing and developing direct reports, preferably including recruiters.
• Capability to develop a headcount model, perform compensation analysis, and clearly present people metrics.
• Excellent judgment and discretion when handling sensitive information.
• A genuine connection to Gaia’s mission of making family building accessible.
• Experience in healthcare, benefits, fintech, or another regulated industry (preferred).
• Familiarity with HRIS and ATS tools such as Justworks, Rippling, BambooHR, Greenhouse, or Ashby (preferred).
• SHRM, CIPD, or similar certification (preferred).
