PDF Annotation & Transcription Experts – Japanese

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Review and verify assigned PDF page tasks.

• Ensure the pages are in Japanese, readable, contain authentic content, and do not include personal information.

• Identify and delineate every significant page region.

• Classify component types and establish reading-order indexes.

• Connect regions to corresponding figures or tables using parent component identifiers.

• Accurately transcribe all text as it appears, including Japanese scripts, furigana, and handwritten notes.

• Highlight any illegible areas.

• Document language, type, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, or handwriting.

• Conduct a thorough review of colleagues’ annotation work as a seasoned annotator.

• Identify and flag inappropriate pages prior to annotation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a native Japanese speaker with proficient knowledge of kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and various character forms.

• Relevant professional experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial tasks, or similar document-intensive roles.

• Strong character-level accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

• Ability to consistently apply a taxonomy across numerous pages.

• Familiarity with vertical text, multi-column newspapers, examination papers, and handwritten documents.

• Proficiency in the Japanese language is essential; all tasks are conducted in Japanese.

• Engagement as an independent contractor is required.

• Must not need H1-B or STEM OPT sponsorship.

• Nice-to-have: Experience in AI training data annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation.

• Nice-to-have: Experience in MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, or post-editing.

• Nice-to-have: Background in Japanese typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization.

• Nice-to-have: Knowledge of Unicode normalization, Japanese input methods, full-width/half-width forms, or handling of kanji variants.
