PDF Annotation, Transcription Experts – Japanese

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Locate publicly available Japanese PDFs within specified document categories and document their sources.

• Identify and delineate every significant page region.

• Classify component types and establish reading-order indices.

• Connect regions to their corresponding figures or tables using parent component identifiers.

• Accurately transcribe all text as presented, including Japanese scripts, furigana, and handwritten material.

• Highlight any illegible source regions.

• Record language, document type, source, page dimensions, and metadata related to tables/formulas/handwriting.

• Review the work of colleagues comprehensively as a secondary Japanese expert.

• Generate human-authored training data for document AI applications.

• Guarantee layout diversity and precise representation of Japanese documents.

⛳️ Requirements

• Native Japanese speaker with comprehensive knowledge of kanji, hiragana, and katakana, including furigana and variant character forms.

• Professional background in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial roles, or similar document-intensive positions.

• Exceptional character-level accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

• Capability to consistently apply a taxonomy across numerous pages.

• Familiarity with vertical text, multi-column newspapers, examination papers, and handwritten forms.

• Proficient language skills in Japanese are essential.

• Ability to locate publicly accessible Japanese PDFs within designated document types that contain at least one multimodal element.

• Skill in identifying, bounding, classifying, and ordering document regions.

• Competence in accurately transcribing kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and handwritten content.

• Independent contractor status is required.

• Must not require H1-B or STEM OPT sponsorship.

• Preferred: experience in annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation for AI training data.

• Preferred: experience in MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, or post-editing.

• Preferred: experience in typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitizing Japanese-language materials.

• Preferred: knowledge of Unicode normalization, Japanese input methods, full-width and half-width forms, and handling of kanji variants.
