PDF Annotation, Transcription Expert – Japanese

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Open and verify the provided PDF tasks

• Ensure that pages are in Japanese, readable, contain genuine content, and do not display any personal information

• Identify and outline every significant page region

• Assign component types and establish reading-order indexes

• Connect regions to associated figures or tables using parent component identifiers

• Accurately transcribe all text as displayed, including kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and handwritten material

• Highlight illegible areas

• Record language, document type, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, and handwriting

• Review the work of colleagues comprehensively as a seasoned annotator

• Engage in human-authored training data for document AI

⛳️ Requirements

• Native Japanese speaker with a complete command of kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and various character forms

• Professional experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial tasks, or similar document-heavy roles

• Exceptional character-level accuracy and meticulous attention to detail

• Capability to consistently apply a taxonomy across numerous pages

• Familiarity with vertical text, multi-column newspapers, exam papers, and handwritten documents

• Fluency in Japanese is mandatory; all annotation and transcription tasks are conducted in Japanese

• Status as an independent contractor

• Must not qualify as an H-1B or STEM OPT candidate

• Preferred: Experience in AI training data annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation

• Preferred: Experience in MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, or post-editing

• Preferred: Skills in Japanese typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization

• Preferred: Knowledge of Unicode normalization, Japanese input methods, full-width and half-width forms, and handling of kanji variants
