PDF Annotation, Transcription Expert – Japanese

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Review and verify the provided PDF-page tasks.

• Ensure pages are in Japanese, readable, contain authentic content, and do not display personal information.

• Identify and outline every significant page section.

• Classify component types and establish reading-order indexes.

• Associate regions with their respective parent figures or tables.

• Accurately transcribe all text as presented, including Japanese scripts, furigana, and handwritten material.

• Mark any illegible source regions.

• Record language, document type, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, and handwriting.

• Review colleagues' work comprehensively as a secondary Japanese expert when qualified.

• Generate human-authored training data for document AI and cutting-edge AI systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Native Japanese speaker with complete proficiency in kanji, hiragana, and katakana, including furigana and variant character forms.

• Professional background in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial work, or similar document-heavy roles.

• Exceptional character-level accuracy and keen attention to detail.

• Methodical application of a taxonomy across numerous pages.

• Familiarity with vertical text, multi-column newspapers, exam papers, and handwritten forms.

• Fluent Japanese language skills are essential; all annotation and transcription tasks are carried out in Japanese.

• Must be an independent contractor.

• Currently unable to accommodate H1-B or STEM OPT candidates.

• Preferred qualifications include experience in annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation for AI training datasets.

• Additional preferred qualifications: MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, or post-editing.

• Additional preferred qualifications: Japanese typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization.

• Additional preferred qualifications: Unicode normalization, Japanese input methods, full-width and half-width forms, and handling of kanji variants.
