PDF Annotation, Transcription Expert – Japanese

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Review and validate the provided PDF tasks.

• Confirm that the pages are in Japanese, are legible, contain authentic content, and do not display any personal information.

• Identify and delineate every significant page region, including titles, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, formulas, questions, and answer fields.

• Assign component types and establish reading-order indices.

• Connect regions to relevant figures or tables using parent component identifiers.

• Accurately transcribe all text as presented, including kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and handwritten material.

• Mark any illegible source regions.

• Record page metadata, encompassing language, document type, source, dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, and handwriting.

• Review the work of colleagues comprehensively as a proficient Japanese expert.

• Ensure that regions are accurately captured, bounded, typed, and sequenced.

• Verify that transcriptions correspond with the source character for character and pass a second-expert review.

⛳️ Requirements

• Native Japanese speaker with comprehensive knowledge of kanji, hiragana, and katakana, including furigana and variant character forms.

• Professional experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial work, or similar document-intensive roles.

• Exceptional character-level accuracy and attention to detail.

• Ability to consistently apply a taxonomy across numerous pages.

• Comfortable with vertical text, multi-column newspapers, exam materials, and handwritten documents.

• Fluent Japanese language skills are essential.

• Capability to perform annotation and transcription entirely in Japanese.

• Independent contractor status is required.

• Must not require H1-B or STEM OPT sponsorship.

• Nice-to-have: Experience in AI training data annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation.

• Nice-to-have: Skills in MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, or post-editing.

• Nice-to-have: Proficiency in Japanese typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization.

• Nice-to-have: Knowledge of Unicode normalization, Japanese input methods, full-width and half-width forms, and kanji variant management.
