PDF Annotation, Transcription Expert – Japanese

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Review and verify assigned PDF-page tasks.

• Ensure pages are in Japanese, easily readable, contain authentic content, and do not disclose personal information.

• Identify and delineate every significant page region.

• Classify component types and assign reading-order indices.

• Connect regions to relevant figures or tables using parent component identifiers.

• Accurately transcribe all text as displayed, including Japanese scripts, furigana, and handwritten text.

• Highlight any illegible source regions.

• Document language, type of document, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, or handwriting.

• Review the complete work of colleagues as a seasoned annotator.

⛳️ Requirements

• Native proficiency in Japanese, with comprehensive knowledge of kanji, hiragana, and katakana.

• Mastery of furigana and various character forms.

• Relevant experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial tasks, or similar document-heavy roles.

• Precision at the character level and keen attention to detail.

• Capability to consistently apply a taxonomy across numerous pages.

• Familiarity with vertical text, multi-column newspapers, examination papers, and handwritten documents.

• Preferred: experience in annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation for AI training datasets.

• Preferred: experience in MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, or post-editing.

• Preferred: skills in typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitizing Japanese-language content.

• Preferred: knowledge of Unicode normalization, Japanese input methods, full-width and half-width forms, and handling of kanji variants.

• Engagement as an independent contractor.

• Must be authorized to work without H1-B or STEM OPT sponsorship.
