PDF Annotation, Transcription Expert – Japanese

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Locate publicly available Japanese PDFs in designated document categories that contain at least one multimodal element.

• Document the source location of each file.

• Identify and delineate every significant page region.

• Classify component types and establish reading-order indexes.

• Connect regions to associated figures or tables using parent component identifiers.

• Accurately transcribe all text as it appears, including Japanese scripts, furigana, and handwriting.

• Highlight regions of illegible source material.

• Record language, document type, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables/forms/handwriting.

• Review colleagues' work comprehensively as a second Japanese expert.

• Create human-generated structural annotations and transcriptions for AI training data.

⛳️ Requirements

• Native proficiency in Japanese, with complete command of kanji, hiragana, and katakana.

• Thorough understanding of furigana and variant character forms.

• Professional background in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial work, or similar document-intensive roles.

• Exceptional character-level accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

• Capability to consistently apply a taxonomy across numerous pages.

• Familiarity with vertical text, multi-column newspapers, exam papers, and handwritten documents.

• Proficient Japanese language skills are essential.

• Engagement as an independent contractor.

• Must not require H1-B or STEM OPT sponsorship.
