This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee operational logistics for a payroll tax function that services over 23,000 employees across 30 different company entities.
• Stabilize operations in a high-demand setting through effective decision-making, risk-based prioritization, and streamlined execution.
• Supervise the implementation of employment tax compliance initiatives within People Operations.
• Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment tax regulations by implementing audit controls in the payroll platform and its integrations.
• Address and resolve employee inquiries as well as inquiries from taxing authorities.
• Collaborate with tax, payroll, and compliance stakeholders during employment tax audits and settlements.
• Create and implement best practices for employment tax compliance activities throughout the region.
• Provide operational guidance and support to payroll vendor teams, including training on pay input parameters.
• Work in conjunction with Finance, Legal, HR, and other internal departments.
• Design, implement, and monitor key performance metrics related to operational health, risk, and compliance.
• Identify and promote continuous process improvements using LEAN methodology and other efficiency frameworks.
• Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and quality in compliance with legal and tax policy requirements.
• A minimum of 5+ years of experience in employment tax compliance within Canada and the USA.
• Significant prior professional experience demonstrating a solid understanding of employment tax processes, regulatory compliance, and/or an Operations/Service-oriented environment.
• Proficient in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Strong understanding of employment tax regulations.
• Skilled in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with HR systems such as Workday and related technologies.
• Payroll Certification is preferred.
• Experience with United States and Canada employment tax is preferred.
• Ability to navigate uncertainty and adapt to evolving business needs and regulatory changes.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, across all organizational levels.
