Payroll and Tax Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +29 more states.

📋 Description

• Implement and refine the Payroll Operations strategy in collaboration with the broader People team.

• Carry out the collection, calculation, and input of payroll information.

• Respond to employee inquiries and issues regarding compensation and attendance tracking.

• Update payroll documentation and generate payroll reports.

• Create and document repeatable, scalable payroll processes along with employee-facing guidelines and procedures.

• Collaborate with Accounting to ensure accurate job costing and general ledger maintenance.

• Generate and evaluate employee data reports.

• Oversee payroll tax accounts, including filing and establishing new accounts.

• Reconcile taxes between Workday and ADP, file quarterly tax returns, and verify tax rates.

• Create and review company tax reports.

• Safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of human resources records, documents, and policies.

• Stay informed about payroll trends, best practices, and regulatory updates.

• Assist employees with inquiries related to People Payroll while delivering outstanding customer service.

• Facilitate and support employee onboarding and offboarding processes.


⛳️ Requirements

• Strong business acumen with the capability to collaborate with HR colleagues, functional specialists, and internal stakeholders.

• In-depth knowledge of federal and state employment laws and compliance standards.

• Excellent skills in time management, prioritization, and both written and verbal communication.

• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, build trust and credibility, and act with integrity.

• Demonstrated ability to creatively and collaboratively resolve conflicts.

• Capable of working independently as well as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team.

• Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment and manage ambiguity effectively.

• Highly detail-oriented and organized.

• Proficient in Excel.

• A minimum of 5 years of progressive payroll experience in a dynamic, fast-paced, and rapidly growing setting.

• Familiarity with Workday and ADP Smart Compliance for payroll functions.

• Experience in payroll tax and compliance.

• A Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field is preferred, but not mandatory.

• Background in a People Operations role within the technology sector is a plus.

• Experience with M&A integrations is advantageous.

• Experience in a rapidly scaling startup is beneficial.

• Working knowledge of employment laws and compliance across all U.S. states is a plus.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
