This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Contribute to outstanding health care and support the mission of the unit.
• Demonstrate exceptional customer service in daily interactions with patients, the public, staff, and physicians.
• Organize physicians’ schedules, calendars, correspondence, and meetings.
• Balance patient appointments with meetings effectively.
• Complete disability, FMLA, and medical insurance forms within specified deadlines.
• Communicate in a professional and empathetic manner with patients, physicians, hospitals, radiology facilities, laboratories, insurance companies, and professional associations.
• Answer and respond to incoming phone calls.
• Manage on-call duties and hospital consultations.
• Schedule appointments, including authorizations for Worker’s Compensation and MVA cases.
• Arrange and facilitate peer-to-peer requests.
• Provide backup support for appointment scheduling calls.
• Maintain computer databases and utilize scheduling, EMR, and associated software.
• Collect payments for forms and x-ray requests.
• Obtain urgent or surgical authorizations for MRI, bone scans, and CT scans.
• Draft and type correspondence for physicians and patients.
• Coordinate communication concerning care and post-surgery requirements.
• Engage in planning and evaluating patient care through effective communication and documentation.
• Keep patients updated about scheduled tests and procedures.
• Cross-train to support secretaries, schedulers, and operators.
• Report necessary information and unusual incidents in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives, committees, staff meetings, staff development, educational activities, orientation programs, and data collection.
• Adhere to Federal and State patient privacy and safety regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
• Perform other assigned duties.
• Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate effectively in English to perform the responsibilities of the position.
• Candidates should possess one (1) to three (3) years of experience in a medical office environment.
• Proficient understanding of Medical Terminology.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Accurate and efficient data entry capabilities.
• Proficient in computer software and database management, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and EMR data entry.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
• Proven ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
• Professional communication skills with patients, peers, and physicians.
• Must comprehend and comply with OrthoMaryland’s policies and procedures.
• Work collaboratively within the unit/department and with other units and departments.
• Above-average spelling and typing abilities.
• Capability to work independently, demonstrating excellent communication, organizational skills, and adaptability.
• The role requires prolonged sitting and typing with extensive use of computers and telephones; lifting requirements are minimal.
