This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Contribute to the quality of health care and support the unit's mission.
• Deliver outstanding customer service to the public, patients, staff, and physicians.
• Manage physician schedules, calendars, mail, appointments, meetings, and on-call/hospital consultations.
• Complete disability, FMLA, and medical insurance forms within designated timeframes.
• Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, hospitals, radiology facilities, laboratories, insurance companies, and professional associations.
• Professionally answer and respond to incoming calls.
• Schedule appointments and secure authorizations for Worker’s Compensation, MVA cases, MRI, bone scans, and CT scans.
• Organize and facilitate peer-to-peer requests.
• Maintain computer databases and utilize scheduling, EMR, and other relevant software.
• Collect payments for forms and x-ray requests.
• Draft and type correspondence for physicians and patients.
• Coordinate communication regarding patient care inquiries and post-surgery requirements.
• Engage in patient-care planning, evaluation, documentation, performance improvement, staff development, education, orientation, data collection, committees, and staff meetings.
• Keep patients updated about scheduled tests and procedures.
• Provide cross-coverage for secretaries, schedulers, and operators.
• Report necessary information and unusual occurrences in line with policies and procedures.
• Adhere to Federal and State patient privacy and workplace regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English adequately to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
• One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a medical office setting.
• Proficient understanding of Medical Terminology.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Accurate and efficient data entry capabilities.
• Proficient in computer software including Microsoft Excel, Word, EMR data entry, and database management.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Successful management of confidential information.
• Professional interaction with patients, peers, and physicians.
• Must comprehend and comply with OrthoMaryland’s policies and procedures.
• Collaborate effectively within one’s own unit/department and across other units and departments.
• Above-average spelling and typing proficiency.
• Capability to work independently, demonstrating excellent communication, organizational skills, and flexibility.
• The position requires prolonged sitting and typing, with extensive use of computers and telephones; lifting is minimal.
