This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Analyze discrepancies in payroll and payroll taxes to uncover root causes and assess their effects on employees, pay periods, quarters, and jurisdictions.
• Amend historical payroll records, encompassing wages, taxes, benefits, deductions, exemptions, and work locations, while ensuring the accuracy of the updated results.
• Identify previously submitted filings that require amendments based on period, jurisdiction, and form.
• Supply filing teams with thorough and precise correction documentation.
• Ascertain when corrected tax forms for employees and contractors, such as W-2C and 1099 corrections, are necessary.
• Verify corrected tax figures prior to the issuance of forms.
• Reconcile tax accounts by ensuring that calculated, collected, and filed amounts are balanced.
• Determine any resulting tax due, refund, or credit.
• Assess the financial impact of each correction and initiate the appropriate collection or refund process.
• Evaluate materiality and filing obligations, define the scope of corrections, and document the supporting rationale.
• Communicate the outcomes of corrections, filing changes, tax implications, and anticipated timelines to partners through written updates.
• Collaborate with Tax Operations, Payroll Operations, Engineering, Product, Risk, and Revenue teams to address complex cases.
• Raise suspected product defects with comprehensive context.
• Handle a large volume of concurrent cases while adhering to filing deadlines and service-level commitments, prioritizing based on risk and impact.
• Identify recurring root causes and propose enhancements to processes, documentation, automation, and products.
• 3–4 years of experience in payroll operations, payroll tax, tax compliance, or a client-facing role in support of a payroll, HR technology, or fintech product.
• Practical experience with payroll corrections, account reconciliation, and the amendment process, or equivalent experience in rectifying regulated submissions.
• Proficiency in handling corrected and amended tax forms.
• Knowledge of multi-jurisdiction payroll tax, including federal employment taxes, state income tax, unemployment insurance, paid leave and disability programs, annual reconciliations, and local taxes.
• Proven ability to analyze data to investigate issues and identify root causes and resolutions.
• Advanced proficiency in spreadsheets; experience with SQL is an added advantage.
• Capability to identify process enhancements and execute operational solutions at scale.
• Familiarity with AI tools to automate workflows while ensuring accuracy.
• Experience with ticketing and/or case management systems, particularly Zendesk.
• Willingness to manage elevated workloads during quarter-end and year-end filing periods.
• Availability to attend the annual 3-day company offsite each spring.
