Paediatric Virtual Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Deliver care through swift evaluation at emergency department diversion clinics and a Nurse Practitioner-led Virtual Urgent Care Clinic.

• Enhance access and patient flow by operating to full capacity, thereby preventing unnecessary emergency room visits or reducing the duration of ER stays.

• Diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests and imaging, make referrals to specialists, and coordinate care with subspecialists.

• Offer continual education, counseling, and guidance to patients, families, and other healthcare providers.

• Collaborate closely with community partners, including 811 (formerly Telehealth).

• Identify opportunities for quality improvement, including the formulation of policies and procedures and patient care initiatives that align with best practices and applicable Canadian guidelines.

• Adhere to the professional practice standards of the Thames Valley Family Health Team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Current registration in the extended class and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

• Minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience with a clinical emphasis in primary or acute care; pediatric experience is preferred.

• Current membership in the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO).

• Current certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers: BLS-HCP (C).

• Strong clinical reasoning skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

• Comprehensive understanding of the Nurse Practitioner Scope of Practice.

• Availability to work from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Sunday, including holidays.

• Recent experience collaborating with external agencies and community partners is preferred.

• Capacity to establish effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues and to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.

• Proficiency in critical thinking, clinical problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

• Proven excellence in interpersonal relations and communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice.

• Commitment to patient and family-centered care.

• Evidence of insight, self-awareness, and self-management consistent with high emotional intelligence.

• Ability to communicate assertively and effectively in a non-judgmental and respectful way.

• Demonstrated experience and leadership in education and research.

• Capability to function as both an independent practitioner and a collaborative team member.

• Proven ability to act empathically while building and maintaining productive relationships.

• Flexibility and a positive attitude towards adapting to changing clinical situations and multiple demands.

• Social Insurance Number and, in some cases, a valid work permit are required to apply.

• The successful candidate must undergo a criminal background check and medical screening.
