Outpatient Coding Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Review medical records and accurately assign codes for diagnoses and procedures.

• Assign and sequence codes based on the documentation in medical records.

• Determine the appropriate discharge disposition.

• Abstract and input coded data to fulfill hospital statistical and reporting requirements.

• Identify and communicate opportunities for documentation improvement and coding issues for follow-up and resolution.

• Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% and ensure a 95% accuracy rate for APC assignment.

• Achieve site-specific productivity standards.

• Monitor and track continuing education credits to uphold professional credentials.

• Participate in educational meetings and in-services sponsored by Datavant Health.

• Take initiative and exercise judgment in fulfilling job responsibilities.

• Collaborate with co-workers, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement matters.

• Adhere to AHIMA’s code of ethics and all HIM Division Policies.

• Manage complex work functions and make informed decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• AHIMA certified credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC certified credentials (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC).

• Minimum of 2 years of coding experience in a hospital environment and/or coding consulting role.

• Proficient in most or all of the following coding specialties: Same Day Surgery, Observation, Injections/Infusions.

• Proficient in most or all of these coding specialties: Ancillary, Emergency Department, Injections/Infusions, E/M leveling.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Competent in remote work settings.

• Excellent time management skills.

• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.

• Must take and successfully pass the annual Introductory HIPAA examination and other designated annual assessments.
