πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Assist in the planning, design, coordination, and execution of outside plant telecommunications projects.

β€’ Design and provide support for aerial and underground OSP fiber initiatives, concentrating on joint-use and pole-attachment engineering.

β€’ Prepare, assess, and manage joint-use and pole-attachment applications.

β€’ Analyze field data, pole details, photographs, measurements, utility records, and existing attachment conditions.

β€’ Conduct or evaluate make-ready engineering and identify necessary pole modifications, transfers, replacements, guying, anchoring, and corrective work.

β€’ Assess telecommunications attachments for compliance with utility standards, NESC regulations, clearance requirements, and customer specifications.

β€’ Perform or review pole loading analysis and pinpoint structural or clearance issues.

β€’ Develop and review work prints, construction drawings, route designs, pole specifications, bills of materials, and supporting documentation.

β€’ Collaborate with pole owners, electric utilities, telecommunications providers, municipalities, permitting agencies, field teams, construction crews, and other stakeholders.

β€’ Monitor applications through submission, review, make-ready, approval, construction, and project closeout.

β€’ Address utility comments, rejections, design modifications, and information requests.

β€’ Manage permitting for right-of-way, encroachment, traffic-control, and jurisdictional requirements.

β€’ Identify utilities, pole ownership, attachment locations, easements, rights-of-way, and construction conflicts.

β€’ Assist in fiber route selection and constructability reviews.

β€’ Review work completed by internal teams, contractors, vendors, or remote design resources.

β€’ Maintain project documentation and provide status updates.

β€’ Resolve discrepancies between field conditions and engineering records.

β€’ Support redlines, design revisions, as-built documentation, and construction-related changes.

β€’ Oversee multiple work orders and projects while adhering to deadlines, service-level agreements, and quality standards.

β€’ Contribute to quality control and enhance joint-use engineering workflows and project delivery.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ 3+ years of experience in OSP engineering, telecommunications engineering, joint use, pole attachments, or a related field.

β€’ Proven experience with aerial fiber design and pole-attachment projects.

β€’ Familiarity with the joint-use application and approval process.

β€’ Experience in make-ready engineering, including the identification of pole modifications and attachment conflicts.

β€’ Knowledge of NESC standards, utility requirements, pole clearances, guying, anchoring, and telecommunications attachment criteria.

β€’ Capability to read and interpret OSP construction drawings, utility maps, field notes, pole data, work prints, and engineering specifications.

β€’ Proficiency in OSP design and mapping software such as AutoCAD, O-Calc Pro, Katapult, IQGeo, ArcGIS, SpatialNet, or similar platforms.

β€’ Understanding of GIS and utility mapping systems.

β€’ Experience in coordinating with electric utilities, municipalities, permitting agencies, telecommunications providers, and construction teams.

β€’ Knowledge of aerial and underground fiber construction techniques.

β€’ Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple projects, applications, and deadlines concurrently.

β€’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

β€’ Ability to work independently in a remote or distributed-team setting.

β€’ Meticulous attention to detail and dedication to producing accurate, construction-ready engineering deliverables.

β€’ Capability to identify engineering or permitting challenges and proactively devise solutions.

β€’ Experience in reviewing or conducting pole loading analysis is strongly preferred.

β€’ Familiarity with right-of-way, encroachment, excavation, and traffic-control permits is preferred.

β€’ Previous experience with telecommunications carriers, fiber providers, electric utilities, or broadband deployment initiatives is preferred.

β€’ Experience with ILEC, CLEC, FTTH, FTTx, or broadband expansion projects is preferred.

β€’ Familiarity with utility-specific joint-use systems and application portals is preferred.

β€’ Experience conducting pole loading analysis using O-Calc Pro or similar software is preferred.

β€’ Knowledge of GO 95, NESC, or state/utility-specific joint-use requirements is preferred.

β€’ Experience supporting high-volume fiber deployment initiatives is preferred.

β€’ An associate's or bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
