OEM Applications Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with customer R&D teams during the conceptual and architectural stages of instrument development.

• Shape optical system designs to guarantee the best integration of optical solutions.

• Spot opportunities where optical performance can enhance new instrument functionalities.

• Assist OEM sales teams in achieving strategic design successes with key accounts.

• Formulate technical solution strategies customized to customer system architectures.

• Provide technical guidance during design reviews and feasibility discussions.

• Determine the most effective optical configurations, including objectives, illumination systems, and imaging pathways.

• Assess trade-offs related to optical performance, system costs, manufacturability, and integration complexity.

• Aid in prototype development and system validation processes.

• Establish trusted relationships with customer R&D leaders and system architects.

• Serve as a long-term technical partner throughout the life cycle of customer platforms.

• Share insights on emerging technology trends and application requirements.

• Gather insights on new applications, instrument architectures, and technology needs.

• Provide structured feedback to Product Management and R&D to shape future product development.

• Work collaboratively with global applications engineering, product management, and R&D teams to create integrated solutions.

• Assist in the development of reference architectures and application frameworks for OEM customers.

• Collaborate with the commercial team on account strategy planning and design win positioning.

⛳️ Requirements

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Optical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Biomedical Engineering, Imaging Science, or a related field.

• 5 to 10 years of experience in optical systems, microscopy, or scientific instrumentation.

• Experience engaging with OEM customers in instrument development settings.

• Proven ability to facilitate design-in or system architecture discussions with engineering teams.

• Strong grasp of optical system design and performance, microscopy and imaging techniques, illumination and detection systems, as well as system-level performance optimization.

• Proficiency with optical design software (e.g., Zemax) is advantageous.

• Willingness to travel 30–50% within EMEA to support customer design initiatives and strategic technical engagements.
