Switchgear Technical Writer / Application Engineering Writer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop comprehensive technical specifications and submittal documents for low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution equipment.

• Create and maintain a reusable documentation library that can be adapted to various engineering projects and designs.

• Convert technical product specifications and engineering information into clear and precise written documentation.

• Collaborate directly with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather missing technical information, pose relevant engineering inquiries, and validate documentation.

• Utilize existing industry and competitor documentation as benchmarks for structure and content.

• Provide support for documentation related to switchgear, Power Distribution Units (PDUs), Remote Power Panels (RPPs), and associated power distribution systems.

• Employ AI tools like Claude where suitable for research, reference, data consolidation, and expediting drafting while ensuring technical accuracy.

• Partner with the SME responsible for creating product specifications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Prior experience in technical writing, engineering, or design related to switchgear, low-voltage/medium-voltage equipment, or closely associated power distribution systems.

• Strong understanding of electrical power systems, particularly those operating at 480V and above.

• Capability to interpret technical specifications and transform engineering information into well-structured, professional documentation.

• Familiarity with technical submittals, engineering specifications, and documentation necessary for project approval and installation.

• Experience working closely with engineers and technical SMEs.

• Preferred application engineering or design engineering experience within the switchgear/power distribution sector.

• Customer-facing engineering experience and the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly are highly preferred.

• Comfortable using AI-assisted tools responsibly to organize information and enhance technical documentation workflows.
