This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.
• Offer expertise, education, coaching, and support regarding clinical practices and documentation.
• Enhance clinical outcomes and the quality of provider documentation for diagnosis evaluation and quality metrics.
• Act as a role model and facilitator within the clinical documentation integrity team.
• Assist leadership in achieving departmental strategic objectives.
• Conduct clinical chart reviews using established criteria for diagnosing medical conditions.
• Assess how provider documentation, laboratory results, diagnostic information, and treatment plans are reflected in coded data.
• Analyze clinical data to detect documentation gaps, inconsistencies, and areas for improvement.
• Engage with providers using a concurrent query process in accordance with ACDIS/AHIMA Guidelines for Compliant Query Writing.
• Collaborate with providers and healthcare team members to clarify information or obtain additional documentation.
• Enhance documentation quality and completeness through provider queries and educational initiatives.
• Work together with team members to ensure accurate and consistent clinical review outcomes.
• Achieve accuracy and productivity targets.
• Report documentation issues and trends to DaVita leadership.
• Attend department meetings.
• Facilitate individual and large-group educational sessions for clinicians, medical coders, and other staff members.
• Collaborate with data analytics, coding, compliance, and education departments to provide onboarding, ongoing, and targeted training for APPs and partner providers on Medicare risk-adjustment documentation requirements.
• Travel 2-4 times annually to deliver in-person training.
• Master’s degree with an active clinical license (APRN or PA) is required.
• Current Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) licensure with no restrictions in the state of residence is required.
• CCDS-O or CDIP certification is required or must be obtained within six months of hire.
• CRC certification is required or must be secured within one year of hire.
• Over 5 years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner (adult-geriatric or family) or Physician Assistant is preferred.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical documentation improvement, coding experience, or equivalent is required.
• At least 1 year of experience working with advanced practice providers and other clinical and non-clinical personnel is required.
• Strong clinical background in evidence-based medicine, particularly in chronic disease management and prevention.
• Familiarity with ICD-10 coding, documentation requirements, and risk adjustment.
• Knowledge of compliant query writing and processes.
• Capability to conduct comprehensive reviews of 20-30 medical records daily.
• Technical expertise in using EMR systems.
• Proficient in MS Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Willingness to travel for on-site meetings 2-4 times per year.
• Candidates should reside or work within Mountain Standard Time (MST) or Pacific Standard Time (PST); EST or CST candidates must be open to 1-2 days a week in MST/PST.
• Expert-level understanding of Medicare risk adjustment, documentation, and coding requirements.
• More than 2 years of experience in providing risk adjustment education or management.
• Over 4 years of experience in developing educational content for clinical professionals.
• Master’s degree in Business, Education, Instructional Design, Nursing, or related fields is preferred.
• Comfortable presenting via Teams or in person.
• Strong technical skills, including proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA, or additional coursework/experience in coding and risk adjustment, such as CPC, CRC, CCDS-O, or CDIP.
• Extensive experience working with Medicare Advantage programs and CMS Risk Adjustment models.
• Previous experience in clinical documentation review or a clinical quality program.
• Experience in developing and delivering clinical education and training.
