This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Collaborate with employee health insurance brokers and carriers to assess new cases and ensure prompt approval and processing of applications.
• Analyze enrollment materials and comprehensive medical records to make underwriting decisions.
• Register new groups and members on the carriers' online platforms.
• Examine final rates, benefit options, and underwriting criteria.
• Reach out to agents/brokers to request further information following case evaluations.
• Create quotes based on actual enrollment to guarantee accurate premiums are forwarded to the carrier.
• Inform agents/brokers regarding overdue premium payments and case statuses, including approved, declined, or withdrawn cases.
• Comply with company confidentiality policies.
• Handle broker of record change letters and agent licensing.
• Respond to broker inquiries.
• Stay updated on medical conditions/terminology and insurance products.
• Complete additional projects as assigned.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• At least one (1) year of experience in underwriting or related group health insurance roles.
• Working knowledge of medical conditions/terminology and insurance products.
• Basic understanding of underwriting principles.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook Exchange.
• Competent in using Internet Explorer.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external personnel.
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret underwriting procedures, requirements, regulations, and contracts.
• Capable of negotiating with agents and brokers.
• Ability to maintain complete confidentiality of information.
• Proficient in identifying when issues warrant escalation.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a positive team environment.
• Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and complete assignments on time.
• Fluency in the English language is required.
• Willingness to work occasional long, irregular hours.
• Ability to sit, frequently speak and hear, and occasionally stand, walk, bend, crawl, kneel, and lift up to 25 lbs.
