Network Installation Specialist – Journeyman

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assess infrastructure readiness by conducting technical site surveys for a vital IT modernization initiative within the US Military.

• Record requirements related to network and system enhancements.

• Supervise the installation of hardware and software solutions.

• Install, route, and secure fiber optic cabling, racks, ironwork, patch panels, and cable management hardware in accordance with TIA/EIA and DoW standards.

• Execute fusion splicing, connector termination, and cable preparation for both singlemode and multimode fiber, as well as copper cabling.

• Identify DC power cable routes and perform wax cord lacing, HTAP, and related equipment tasks.

• Carry out, document, and analyze OTDR, power meter, and continuity tests to troubleshoot and resolve fiber-related issues.

• Comply with security-level access, material-handling, and associated protocols.

• Interpret SOWs, site drawings, and infrastructure diagrams while maintaining precise network-route records.

• Create and compile comprehensive Site Survey Reports (SSRs).

• Provide mentorship to fellow technicians.

• Collaborate directly with the Project Manager, PMO, and Government Points of Contact.

⛳️ Requirements

• BA/BS degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

• Active Secret Clearance; Top Secret clearance is preferred.

• Must be willing to travel 90% of the time for deployments, both CONUS and potentially OCONUS.

• Experience ranging from one to three years in the construction, maintenance, or repair of different types of networking or electronics equipment, or a comparable combination of education from a related technical field that meets the experience requirement.

• Expertise in Telcordia standards, fiber optic splicing, and testing equipment.

• Fundamental knowledge of communication installations.

• Some experience with networking devices, such as IP routers and optical/IP switches, and the ability to install these devices according to DoW and Industry Implementation Standards.

• Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills, along with experience in customer service environments.

• Proficiency in MS Office applications and Google documents/sheets/slides for reporting purposes.

• Previous experience with Outside Plant (OSP) fiber and fiber cabinets is highly desirable.

• Familiarity with specific equipment manufacturers, like Corning.

• Knowledge of network security products.

• Understanding of Army installations.

• Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift heavy equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

• Active SECRET clearance is required to begin; TS clearance is preferred.
