Network Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Engage in network planning, engineering, and architectural processes.

• Create and upkeep technical and procedural documentation.

• Offer second- or third-level support for incidents and service requests.

• Implement and set up network devices according to provided designs and standards.

• Oversee network performance, troubleshoot issues and outages, schedule upgrades, and work with network architects on optimization.

• Develop and enforce network security policies.

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve intricate network problems.

• Ensure high availability through redundancy, failover configurations, and proactive maintenance.

• Coordinate activities among various teams to guarantee 99.999% organizational uptime.

• Provide on-call technical support during after-hours and weekends as required.

• Record network designs, policies, and system configurations.

• Lead network-related projects from concept to deployment, ensuring milestones and deliverables are achieved.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and suggest network enhancements.

• Implement and uphold security protocols, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and encryption standards.

• Monitor vulnerabilities and apply patches, updates, or changes to reduce risks.

• Ensure adherence to organizational policies and regulatory standards.

• Manage and collaborate with other Managed Service Providers such as Lumen Versa.

⛳️ Requirements

• Comprehensive understanding of security requirements for deploying voice solutions in the field.

• Experience in configuring Cisco Routers, Switches, SDWAN, and VXLAN within a voice environment.

• Familiarity with NG911 topology and related equipment.

• Extensive knowledge and experience with Cisco SD-WAN, Versa, Cisco ISR and ASR Routing platforms, Cisco Nexus 9K Switching, Cisco Catalyst Switching, Cisco NG Firewalls, Cisco ASA Firewalls, and VXLAN in both IPv4 and IPv6 environments.

• Experience with virtualized networks, including VMware, Google Cloud Platform, and Azure Cloud Platform.

• Capability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network challenges.

• Ability to ensure high availability through redundancy, failover configurations, and proactive maintenance.

• Proficient in coordinating activities among multiple groups to maintain 99.999% uptime.

• Availability to provide on-call technical support after hours and on weekends as necessary.

• Ability to function as part of a distributed team.

• Willingness to participate in on-call schedules and work outside normal business hours during planned maintenance windows.

• Knowledge of network security protocols, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and encryption standards.

• Understanding of vulnerability monitoring, patching, updates, and risk mitigation.

• Familiarity with NIST, CIS, or NENA security standards.

• Experience managing and collaborating with Managed Service Providers such as Lumen Versa.

• Strong oral and written communication skills in English.

• Excellent email and telephone etiquette.

• Over 10 years of proven experience in network engineering, implementing, and maintaining geographically dispersed networks.

• At least 5 years of network security experience, encompassing firewalls, security tools, and threat mitigation.

• Ability to advance technologies, processes, and practices in the area of specialization.

• Cisco CCNP, CCIE, Security, and/or SDWAN certification or equivalent experience (preferred).

• Azure, GCP, and/or VMware certification (preferred).

• Experience in NG 9-1-1 networking or carrier-grade voice networking (preferred).
