Senior Network Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Configure, oversee, and troubleshoot extensive, multi-vendor network infrastructures that include routers, switches, gateways, and wireless access points.

• Design, manage, and resolve issues within network authentication systems involving RADIUS, AAA, 802.1X, EAP, certificate-based authentication, captive portals, and MAC-based authentication.

• Implement networking technologies such as routing, switching, VLANs, NAT, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, VPNs, and QoS.

• Analyze intricate network problems across Layers 2–7 utilizing packet captures, device logs, monitoring tools, and system telemetry.

• Support distributed network setups with centralized configuration, monitoring, firmware management, and device lifecycle processes.

• Create scripts and automation for network provisioning, configuration management, authentication, monitoring, and device lifecycle oversight.

• Develop diagnostic and troubleshooting tools tailored for large network environments.

• Convert network behavior and vendor specifications into technical requirements for software applications and services.

• Collaborate with senior software engineers and progressively assume ownership of software development projects.

• Design, develop, and sustain software services that interact with or control the network infrastructure.

• Engage with REST APIs, Linux-based environments, cloud infrastructure, and containerized services.

• Work alongside engineering, product, UX, and cross-functional teams.

• Take part in architecture and design discussions, code reviews, technical discovery, testing, and adhere to software development best practices.

• Integrate security requirements into network architecture and the software development lifecycle.

• Operate in an Agile/Scrum environment with two-week development sprints.

• Participate in an on-call rotation as necessary.

• Document network standards, processes, architecture, and troubleshooting methodologies.

• Develop and maintain technical runbooks and operational documentation.

• Act as a subject matter expert and provide mentorship to team members.

• Stay updated with the latest in networking, cloud, security, and software development best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of practical experience in designing, deploying, operating, and troubleshooting production IP networks.

• Strong knowledge of routing, switching, VLANs, NAT, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, VPNs, and QoS.

• Capability to troubleshoot complex issues across Layers 2–7.

• Extensive hands-on experience with RADIUS, AAA, 802.1X, EAP, and certificate-based authentication.

• Familiarity with various network hardware and software vendors, including routers, switches, gateways, and wireless infrastructure.

• Experience managing large numbers of network devices across multi-site or distributed settings.

• Proficient in centralized network configuration, monitoring, firmware management, and device lifecycle processes.

• Strong programming and scripting skills relevant to network operations and automation.

• Proficient in Python, Bash, network scripting, and REST APIs.

• Strong Linux proficiency and comfort working in command-line environments.

• Demonstrated ability and genuine interest in transitioning to broader software engineering roles.

• Willingness to learn modern software development practices, including version control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and cloud technologies.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Ability to function effectively in a remote, Agile development setting.

• Must reside in the United States.
