National Text and Chat Counselor, Part-Time

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Respond to incoming text and chat messages swiftly via the 988 Lifeline platform.

• Utilize active listening, empathy, and evidence-based crisis intervention strategies to engage users.

• Perform assessments to evaluate suicide risk.

• As needed, escalate high-risk scenarios to supervisors or emergency services.

• Maintain professional boundaries and practice cultural humility and trauma-informed care.

• Offer referrals to local mental health services, shelters, substance use treatment, and other relevant resources.

• Accurately and promptly document interactions in electronic records, adhering to agency and legal standards.

• Take part in regular supervision, debriefing sessions, and training opportunities.

• Ensure confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations along with 988 Lifeline guidelines.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Preference for candidates with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field.

• Proficient typing skills.

• Excellent written communication abilities.

• Skills in crisis de-escalation.

• Comfort in engaging with diverse populations, including LGBTQIA+, youth, and individuals in active mental health or substance-related crises.

• Commitment to adhering to HIPAA and confidentiality protocols.

• Compliance with 988 Lifeline standards is essential.

• Reliable internet connectivity and a private, quiet workspace are required.

• Bilingual or multilingual abilities are preferred.
