Moon Base Communications and Tracking Engineer – Safety and Reliability

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Provide technical support for exploration systems in NASA’s Moon Base program.

• Ensure that communications and tracking related to Moon Base design, hazards, proposed operations, and verifications align with relevant Safety and Mission Assurance requirements.

• Review and provide feedback on Safety Data Packages, hazard reports and analyses, integrated hazard reports, non-compliance reports, and other safety data deliverables.

• Offer technical expertise for SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, TIMs, and critical contingency EVA pre-failure analyses.

• Conduct technical and requirements compliance assessments of development products and special risk evaluations.

• Assess end-to-end link robustness across the evolving communications architectures of the Moon Base.

• Confirm that tracking and navigation systems fulfill safety-critical accuracy, redundancy, and fault-tolerance criteria.

• Work collaboratively with systems engineering, mission operations, and network providers to evaluate risks and verify mitigation strategies.

• Analyze test plans, verification reports, and requirements to ensure compliance with NASA's safety, reliability, and standards.

• Assist in anomaly resolution, root cause analysis, and the formulation of corrective actions for communications and tracking failures.

• Oversee communications and tracking hardware for any signs of degraded performance or reliability issues.

• Examine reliability predictions, hazard analyses, safety assessments, and verification matrices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Safety Engineering, or a related field.

• Basic proficiency in using personal computers with standard business software.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

• Ability to travel occasionally and work shifts as needed.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and capable of obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
