Module Manufacturing Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement processes for manufacturing composite structures, subassemblies, and final aircraft assembly operations.

• Support activities related to prototypes, low-rate initial production, and full-rate manufacturing.

• Assess manufacturing methods and identify areas for improvement, cost reduction, and productivity enhancement.

• Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with quality, safety, and production standards.

• Collaborate with Design Engineering teams to enhance products for manufacturability and efficient production.

• Assist with manufacturing readiness activities throughout the entire product lifecycle.

• Create and maintain manufacturing work orders, routers, travelers, and shop floor documentation.

• Develop work instructions for composite fabrication and assembly operations.

• Convert engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications into production-ready manufacturing processes.

• Support the implementation of engineering changes and manage configuration control.

• Provide technical guidance and process documentation to manufacturing staff.

• Create methods for composite layup, bonding, trimming, curing, and assembly.

• Assist production teams in executing composite fabrication tasks.

• Address manufacturing challenges, nonconformances, and process capability issues with Quality teams.

• Transition products from development and prototype stages into full-scale production.

• Define, develop, and optimize assembly processes for aircraft structures, modules, and integrated systems.

• Support assembly sequencing, work package development, production planning, readiness reviews, and build planning.

• Troubleshoot assembly challenges and enhance production flow.

• Promote process standardization and best practices in assembly.

• Design and develop tooling for manufacturing, assembly fixtures, and composite layup aids.

• Oversee tooling modifications, maintenance, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Lead initiatives for process improvement focusing on quality, cost, delivery, and operational efficiency.

• Implement Lean Manufacturing principles to minimize waste and improve shop floor performance.

• Participate in root cause investigations, corrective actions, process validation, KPI development, reporting, and performance monitoring.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.

• An equivalent combination of education and substantial aerospace manufacturing experience may be considered.

• Over 8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering within aerospace, aviation, defense, or advanced manufacturing settings.

• Experience in developing manufacturing work orders, work instructions, routers, travelers, and production process documentation.

• Strong knowledge of composite manufacturing processes, materials, and fabrication techniques.

• Experience in supporting aerospace assembly operations and production environments.

• Experience in designing manufacturing tooling, assembly fixtures, and composite layup tools.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D CAD models.

• Strong skills in process improvement, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across various functions.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment.

• Experience in supporting UAV, UAS, or autonomous aircraft programs.

• Familiarity with conducting or supporting PFMEA activities.

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.

• Understanding of AS9100 and aerospace quality management systems.

• Experience in supporting prototype development, low-rate production, and production ramp-up efforts.

• Knowledge of composite curing, bonding, trimming, and structural assembly processes.

• Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), ERP systems, and production planning tools.

• Understanding of aircraft structures, tooling validation, and manufacturing readiness requirements.

• Experience in supporting Airbus aerospace programs or advanced aerospace manufacturing environments.

• Ability to obtain access to information governed by U.S. export control regulations; access may be restricted to U.S. Persons.
