Medical Coder I – Radiation Oncology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Validate and arrange ICD-10 and/or CPT/HCPCS codes obtained from patient medical records and/or procedure reports for submission.

• Implement ICD-10 hierarchy coding in accordance with official guidelines and linking requirements.

• Apply the rules for column 1 and column 2 in ICD-10 coding.

• Research and navigate CMS guidelines, LCDs, and NCDs effectively.

• Communicate with providers in a clear and precise manner during the querying process.

• Utilize Medicare, Managed Care, and Commercial Insurance coding guidelines for E&M and procedures.

• Navigate through electronic medical records for billing, coding, and addressing insurance denials.

• Address insurance denials for follow-up and collaborate with the Accounts Receivable Team.

• Review and submit 64 encounters daily or eight charts hourly; handle denials at a rate of five charts per hour.

• Collaborate with professional offices, hospital outpatient, and inpatient services.

• Engage in client and Savista staff meetings, trainings, and conference calls.

• Stay updated on ICD-10 and/or CPT/HCPCS, coding guidelines, government regulations, protocols, and third-party requirements.

• Participate in continuing education activities to enhance knowledge, skills, and maintain current credentials.

⛳️ Requirements

• An active AHIMA (American Health Information Association) credential or an active AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) credential is required.

• A minimum of one year of relevant coding experience is necessary.

• Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, as well as ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS code sets is essential.

• Capability to consistently code at a 95% threshold for quality and accuracy while adhering to client-specific and/or Savista production and/or quality standards.

• Proficient computer skills, including MS Office, with the ability to enter data, sort and filter Excel files, and use Outlook, Word, and Excel.

• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving abilities when dealing with all levels of internal and external customers.

• Exceptional organizational skills and time management capabilities.

• Recent and relevant experience in an active coding production environment is strongly preferred.

• Experience with an encoder system is required.

• Familiarity with EPIC and Cerner systems is preferable.

• Proficiency in the ARIA system is necessary.
