This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.
• Strategize and schedule consistent content for MOTHRA’s Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube Shorts profiles.
• Create accessible and captivating updates regarding construction, scientific publications, and various project achievements.
• Compose and publish succinct, visually appealing news and blog articles for the MOTHRA website.
• Leverage social media content to guide audiences towards in-depth content available on the website.
• Acquire, organize, and prepare photos, short clips, astronomical images, and other visual materials contributed by the team.
• Occasionally develop newsletter content, including email distribution if a subscriber list is created.
• Assist with the preparation, organization, and dissemination of press releases in collaboration with the team and partner organizations.
• Formulate a monthly communications strategy based on upcoming project initiatives and priorities.
• Maintain a lightweight tracking system for published content, media exposure, audience engagement, and growth.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure technical content is precise and that sensitive information is managed properly.
• Occasionally produce longer-form YouTube videos lasting approximately 8–10 minutes.
• Facilitate collaborations with creators in science, astronomy, astrophotography, or filmmaking.
• Coordinate podcast, interview, and other media opportunities.
• Compile background information, summaries, quotes, and image packages for journalists and partner press offices.
• Proven experience in creating science, nature, or technology content for public audiences via social media, web, video, broadcast, education, or similar channels.
• Strong writing and editing capabilities, with the ability to convert technical material into clear, engaging, and accurate content.
• Hands-on experience in sourcing or generating visual content, performing basic video editing, and publishing across web and social media platforms.
• Excellent communication, time management, and organizational abilities.
• Capability to independently plan and manage a consistent content schedule.
• Good judgment regarding when to work autonomously and when to seek input from the project team on technical or sensitive issues.
• Passion for astronomy, science communication, and the night sky.
• Educational background or professional experience in science communication, communications, journalism, education, content creation, or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with astrophotography and the astrophotography community.
• Experience in communicating astronomy or other scientific research areas.
• Experience in liaising with journalists, press offices, press releases, or managing media embargoes.
• Established network or presence in astronomy-related media or content creation.
• Involvement in astronomy clubs, public outreach, or educational initiatives.
• Experience in a startup or startup-like environment.
• Flexible working hours and location.
• Remote work options.
• Initial commitment of around 16 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours during major milestones.
• Competitive pay ranging from USD $40 to $50 per hour, adjusted based on experience and location.
• Initial one-year term with the possibility of extension.
