This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Serve as the Mechanical Engineer Lead for the Data Center, acting as the main contact for clients.
• Design and supervise the construction of mechanical systems for hyperscale data centers, encompassing HVAC, piping, and fire suppression systems.
• Coordinate various disciplines and lead the mechanical team, which includes HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing specialists.
• Create detailed specifications for mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, and air handling units.
• Prepare internal and external reports based on analysis and findings.
• Ensure that discipline plans align with project scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
• Keep updated on relevant mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection codes and technologies.
• Assess mechanical system performance and suggest necessary upgrades.
• Provide technical assistance during construction, address RFIs, and resolve project-related issues.
• Participate in job site visits, project meetings, and commissioning activities as required.
• Ensure adherence to industry standards, codes, and regulations.
• Evaluate and recommend technologies and equipment aimed at enhancing performance and lowering operational costs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate chiller systems with data center infrastructure.
• Analyze energy consumption and pinpoint optimization and cost-saving opportunities.
• Collaborate with global AECOM teams on prominent data center projects for international clients.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, complemented by ten (10) years of relevant experience in mechanical design and/or mechanical engineering with a focus on data center infrastructure, or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• A Professional Engineer License (P.E.) is mandatory.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with twelve (12) years of relevant experience.
• Extensive experience in mechanical engineering for data centers or other critical facilities.
• Profound knowledge of HVAC, piping, and fire suppression systems design and construction.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to establish and nurture strong client relationships.
• Capacity to think creatively and identify opportunities to enhance the client experience.
• Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software.
• Familiarity with data center design and construction, including design criteria and industry standards.
• Must be eligible to work from a location in the United States.
