This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Utilize hands-on mechanical engineering skills for technically intricate tasks related to physical systems and products.
β’ Examine and assess mechanical designs, engineering analyses, simulation outcomes, testing methodologies, and troubleshooting strategies.
β’ Evaluate trade-offs concerning structures, materials, thermal performance, mechanical design, dynamics, vibration, controls, reliability, and manufacturability.
β’ Determine the technical accuracy and practical viability of engineering solutions.
β’ Identify erroneous assumptions, unrealistic boundary conditions, design flaws, failure modes, and potential implementation or reliability risks.
β’ Develop or review comprehensive engineering problems, reference solutions, evaluation criteria, and technical documentation.
β’ Leverage practical experience in design, simulation, prototyping, hardware integration, testing, validation, qualification, debugging, and manufacturing.
β’ Offer clear technical feedback based on engineering experience and established principles.
β’ Participate in AI research initiatives aimed at training and enhancing AI systems at Mercor, collaborating with AI laboratories and enterprises.
β’ Over 5 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
β’ A minimum of 3 years of recent, hands-on experience in hardware development, analysis, testing, validation, integration, bring-up, or troubleshooting.
β’ Proven experience as the responsible engineer for actual hardware or physical systems, overseeing parts of the engineering lifecycle from requirements and analysis to design, prototyping, testing, validation, qualification, and manufacturing readiness.
β’ Extensive technical expertise in at least one core area: structural/stress analysis and FEA; thermal analysis, heat transfer, and thermal management; mechanical design and product development; or dynamics, vibration, mechanisms, and controls.
β’ Strong understanding of materials, loads and boundary conditions, structural margins, fatigue, thermal constraints, tolerances/GD&T, component selection, reliability, manufacturability, system integration, and engineering failure-mode analysis.
β’ Practical experience in analyzing, testing, debugging, and validating physical hardware.
β’ Familiarity with CAD/CAE, FEA, CFD/thermal simulation, dynamic or controls simulation, test instrumentation, data acquisition, and structured root-cause analysis.
β’ Experience in developing hardware within real-world product or manufacturing settings.
β’ Ability to articulate technical decisions, design trade-offs, test outcomes, and failure mechanisms clearly.
β’ Prior experience with a company that designs, builds, tests, and manufactures physical hardware products or systems is highly preferred.
β’ Must not require H1-B or STEM OPT sponsorship.
