Trainer, 3D Scanning with a Focus on Mechanical Engineering & Scan-to-CAD

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Provide practical training on the fundamentals of 3D scanning, emphasizing mechanical engineering.

• Instruct participants on the complete scan-to-CAD workflow, including 3D scanning, point clouds, meshes, reverse engineering, CAD models, technical drawings, and manufacturing processes.

• Oversee project work related to real-world components.

• Integrate contemporary technologies and industrial case studies into the training sessions.

• Assist participants in confidently applying their knowledge in practical scenarios, including within virtual classrooms.

• Mentor individuals on their path to digital product development.


⛳️ Requirements

• A technical background, ideally in mechanical engineering, design engineering, product development, manufacturing, metrology, 3D digitization, or a similar technical discipline.

• Hands-on experience with 3D scanning or processing 3D scan data.

• Fundamental understanding of various 3D scanning technologies and their potential applications.

• Familiarity with point clouds and/or mesh data.

• Basic knowledge of preparing and processing scan data further.

• Proficiency in at least one common CAD system.

• Insight into integrating scan data into technical design or development workflows.

• Capability to communicate technical concepts clearly and in a practical, application-focused manner.

• Willingness to engage with specific curriculum topics utilizing existing training resources.

• Understanding of standard scanning workflows, from data capture to further processing.

• Awareness of common errors that can occur during 3D scan data capture.

• Fundamental knowledge of cleaning, filtering, and aligning scan data.

• Familiarity with the basic creation and editing of meshes.

• Knowledge of common data and exchange formats utilized in 3D scanning and CAD.

• Basic understanding of reverse engineering and scan-to-CAD methodologies.

• Ability to evaluate the fundamental quality and usability of scan data.

• Awareness of typical industrial applications for 3D scanning.

• Basic knowledge of the use of 3D scanning in design engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, or product development.

• Ability to demonstrate a straightforward scanning workflow using a practical example.

• Nice to have: Professional experience in design engineering, product development, metrology, or quality assurance.

• Nice to have: Experience with reverse engineering and scan-to-CAD processes.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with CAD systems such as CATIA, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar software.

• Nice to have: Experience with professional-grade 3D scanning software.

• Nice to have: Knowledge of optical metrology.

• Nice to have: Experience in industrial component inspection or quality assurance.

• Nice to have: Knowledge of 3D printing or additive manufacturing technologies.

• Nice to have: Experience with mobile mapping, drone scanning, or large-volume scanning techniques.

• Nice to have: Knowledge of applications related to construction and surveying.

• Nice to have: Basic understanding of current trends such as AI-assisted data processing, AR/VR, or automated scan analysis.

• Nice to have: Certification from manufacturers in 3D scanning or metrology.

• Nice to have: Experience in training, lecturing, or knowledge transfer in the workplace.

• Nice to have: AEVO certification or an equivalent educational qualification.
