Senior Controls Design Engineer, CAD

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design control panels for HVAC systems, electrical power monitoring systems, switchgear interfaces, field instrumentation, networking equipment, and third-party vendor integrations in mission-critical settings.

• Integrate Engineer of Record, MEP design packages, vendor technical submissions, network architecture documentation, project-specific design documents, standards, and naming conventions.

• Implement changes based on submissions, including points mapping, control interfaces, and vendor-specific requirements.

• Finalize BMS and EPMS control panel drawings to achieve 100% readiness for manufacturing release.

• Conduct constructability assessments to validate installation feasibility, cable routing, power distribution compatibility, and adherence to site constraints.

• Recognize design risks or deficiencies and drive mitigation strategies.

• Create points mapping, wiring requirements, and vendor schematic integrations.

• Spot opportunities for design simplification, cost efficiency, and material reduction while ensuring functional and redundancy standards are met.

• Suggest enhancements to panel architecture, wiring designs, and component selections.

• Maintain revision control and ensure timely submission of drawings and documents.

• Integrate commissioning requirements to facilitate FAT/SAT/IST processes.

• Coordinate scope, schedule, and deliverables with cross-functional teams.

• Liaise with panel manufacturers and vendors to address technical inquiries and support fabrication and assembly.

• Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and partners.

• Serve as a Design & Engineering subject matter expert to assist Project and Commissioning Managers.

• Aid project leadership in risk identification, issue resolution, and alignment of deliveries.

• Escalate technical risks, constraints, and changes in scope.

• Comply with company policies, QMS requirements, and safety standards.

• Contribute to and enhance the Quality Management System.

• Advocate for structured engineering and documentation practices.

• Identify process improvements and lead continuous improvement initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field, combined with relevant technical experience.

• 5–7 years of experience in electrical control panel design, controls engineering, automation, or systems integration.

• Background in supporting industrial automation, manufacturing, utilities, pharmaceuticals, water/wastewater, infrastructure, or mission-critical projects.

• Familiarity with IEC 60204, IEC 61439, and standards for electrical drafting/documentation is preferred.

• Working knowledge of PLC, SCADA, BMS, and EPMS architectures along with related field instrumentation.

• Utilize appropriate drafting, design-documentation, and configuration-control methods with company-approved design tools, templates, standards, and document-management processes.

• Ability to work independently on engineering projects.

• Proficient in EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical, with experience in producing manufacturing-ready control panel designs; EPLAN expertise is preferred.

• Solid understanding of instrumentation, control panels, and networked systems.

• Capable of reading and interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control narratives.

• Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.

• Sound decision-making capabilities and keen attention to detail.
