Mechanical Engineer 3 – NSSS Appurtenance Design

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Execute mechanical engineering tasks related to the nuclear steam supply system, encompassing both system design and detailed component design.

• Assess and analyze plant systems to establish design, performance, inspection, and testing criteria.

• Create, verify, and review engineering documents, including reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, and other design-related materials.

• Work alongside multidisciplinary teams on intricate projects and suggest innovative design approaches.

• Understand project scope and requirements.

• Organize, plan, and conduct complex tasks that assist in the development of licensing scope.

• Support engineering technical programs in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a, including Inservice Testing, Inservice Inspection, and Appendix J.

• Formulate and enforce specifications for system and component design, engineering standards, and drawings.

• Assist in proof-of-concept and component qualification testing.

• Partner with NuScale Licensing on both domestic and international regulatory initiatives.

• Manage design tasks and troubleshoot technical issues in collaboration with colleagues and other disciplines.

• Follow NuScale's safety culture and quality assurance protocols as outlined in 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.

• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, ideally in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering, from a four-year ABET-accredited institution.

• At least 5 years of full-time pertinent professional experience.

• A PE license in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering is preferred but not mandatory.

• Familiarity with NSSS systems and their components.

• Comprehensive understanding of relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations.

• Proficient knowledge of ASME Codes and Standards.

• Awareness of 10 CFR 50.

• Experience and knowledge in nuclear utilities or plant operations.

• Background in NSSS system design, inspection, and testing.

• Proven experience in addressing complex and multidisciplinary design challenges.

• Strong communication, computer, presentation, and interpersonal abilities.

• Excellent technical writing and outstanding organizational skills.

• Capability to manage projects encompassing multiple work phases.

• Eligible to work under the Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

• Willingness to travel both nationally and locally as required.

• Ability to acquire, maintain, and enhance training qualifications.
