Lead Turbine Design Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Act as the Principal Project Engineer and technical authority for the mechanical design of hydro turbines in new or refurbishment initiatives.

• Ensure that turbine cross-sections meet contract specifications and regulatory standards while managing component interactions.

• Review contracts and create as well as distribute work packages to Design Engineers.

• Identify technical risks and opportunities within the project scope.

• Oversee the basic design phase, collaborating with the Hydraulic Design and Special Calculation teams.

• Execute component designs and calculations, validating critical components alongside Principal/Consulting Engineers.

• Lead design reviews and ensure follow-up on review action items.

• Coordinate basic design interfaces across turbine Centers of Excellence (COEs) and Design Engineers.

• Provide technical assistance to Design Engineers to maintain design consistency.

• Enhance designs in collaboration with Supply Chain and Site Installation teams.

• Support the System Integrator as necessary.

• Ensure the quality and successful execution of engineering deliverables.

• Take ownership of the final cross-section and detailed drawings.

• Draft reports, engineering calculation notes, test procedures, and operation and maintenance manuals.

• Conduct occasional site inspections and participate in signature tests prior to unit disassembly.

• Act as the primary contact for Construction & Commissioning site assistance.

• Monitor prototype turbine performance testing on-site.

• Develop tools and design guidelines for turbine engineering.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a Master’s degree in a related field, with pertinent experience in hydro mechanical design.

• Proven technical leadership capabilities.

• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and communicate clearly.

• Willingness to undergo pre-employment screening, including reference verification and background checks.

• Availability for occasional travel within Brazil, Canada, and the USA.

• Must be fully bilingual, with fluency in both Portuguese and English.

• Desire to acquire in-depth knowledge of the hydro technical discipline, leveraging prior experience and technical expertise to execute policies and strategies.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to interact smoothly with colleagues in other facilities across Brazil and internationally, particularly those who predominantly communicate in English.

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

• Capability to influence others and lead small teams effectively.
