Marine Mechanical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Design, assess, and integrate mechanical systems for marine vessels.

• Support the 2D and 3D design processes for vessels.

• Ensure that mechanical designs meet the standards set forth by CFRs, IMO, ABS, DNV, IEC, and SOLAS.

• Engage in projects related to both new vessel design and the refurbishment and modification of existing vessels.

• Assist in leading root-cause analysis and diagnostics for intricate mechanical system issues.

• Develop and execute corrective actions, upgrades, and system optimizations.

• Prepare specifications, schematics, calculations, reports, and progress updates.

• Review and provide feedback on detailed designs submitted by shipyard contractors.

• Conduct inspections and verifications to ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and classification requirements.

• Prepare documentation for approval, certification, and audits.

• Remain up-to-date with advancements in marine mechanical equipment, piping systems, hybrid propulsion, and energy efficiency technologies.

• Collaborate with the team while also being capable of working independently when necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of eight years of experience in the maritime industry providing mechanical design support.

• Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited program.

• EIT certification.

• A Professional Engineer's license (PE) is preferred, or a commitment to obtaining one.

• Intermediate knowledge of marine construction, ship repair, safety standards, and regulatory frameworks.

• Demonstrated capability in shipyard and marine operations.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office.

• Familiarity with Rhino and Pipe-Flo is advantageous.

• Ability to conduct onsite ship inspections.

• Maintain membership in SNAME, ASME, ASCE, or IEEE.

• Experience in integrating vendor-provided systems into the overall vessel design.

• Conceptual understanding of marine mechanical systems, including fluid handling, mechanical propulsion components, hydraulics, and HVAC.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Capable of interpreting data and developing design solutions.

• Proficient in technical research, reporting, and clear written communication.

• Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearly.

• Willingness to travel by car, plane, and vessel.

• Ability to climb ladders, navigate confined spaces, and perform physical tasks in various environmental conditions during vessel inspections.
