This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the daily operations of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, a peer-reviewed scientific publication.

• Ensure that manuscript processing is timely, ethical, and accurate from submission to publication.

• Maintain strong relationships with authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and the publishing partner.

• Monitor developments in scholarly publishing and update journal policies and procedures accordingly.

• Manage and track the manuscript workflow utilizing an online submission system such as Editorial Manager.

• Ensure that content deadlines are consistently met.

• Supervise the Associate Managing Editor, Editorial Coordinator, and three Editorial Assistants.

• Coordinate with Elsevier’s Journal Manager to facilitate journal production and resolve any production issues.

• Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief on editorial board meetings, communications, and initiatives.

• Maintain the journal's style guide and Information for Authors.

• Adapt workflows in response to updates in manuscript-handling software.

• Manage the budget, including projections, resource allocation, budget statements, stipend payments, and author page-charge billing.

• Design and implement monthly, semi-annual, and annual performance reports.

• Introduce editorial and publishing enhancements.

• Coordinate special issues, supplements, invited content, and guideline commentaries.

• Collaborate with NKF Marketing and Communications to promote journal content effectively.

• Support the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial board transition process with senior scientific leadership.

• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 7 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

• Extensive experience in project management is necessary.

• Proven track record of designing and implementing successful programs and initiatives within scholarly publishing.

• A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience is required.

• Ability to manage various functions effectively.

• Significant judgment to apply limited parameters and concepts to complex problems, opportunities, projects, and situations.

• Ability to devise new approaches and modify existing ones within established policies, guidelines, practices, and philosophies.

• Capability to achieve consensus or approval while managing multiple demands.

• Excellent command of medical terminology.

• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
