Managing Director of Development – Great Lakes Atlantic Region

📋 Description

• Provide strategic guidance and leadership for major gift initiatives in the Great Lakes Atlantic Region, encompassing Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Kentucky

• Maintain a personal portfolio of affluent major gift prospects to nurture, solicit, and manage

• Collaborate with the National Director to advance assigned leadership prospects towards philanthropic commitments

• Assist Directors of Development in formulating strategies for engaging and soliciting major donor prospects

• Assign tasks and assess staff performance in prospect management, solicitation, and follow-up activities

• Foster a unified fundraising team of staff and volunteers to execute a comprehensive major gift program and support additional fundraising efforts

• Cultivate and sustain relationships with conservation and event staff to enhance the development program and further Ducks Unlimited’s mission

• Collaborate with staff and volunteers to establish state campaign and Director of Development work plans

• Team up with the Managing Director of Gift Planning to identify and pursue blended gifts

• Represent development interests on the Regional Leadership Team

• Participate in development management and leadership prospect management teams

• Oversee recruitment, onboarding/training, coaching, performance management, and retention of a cohesive team

• Report directly to the National Director of Development


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

• Minimum of six years of fundraising experience, with at least four years focused on development/major gifts

• Experience with comprehensive fundraising campaigns preferred

• Established relationships within the region’s philanthropic community preferred

• Interest in outdoor conservation activities preferred

• Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills

• Ability to compellingly communicate the mission of Ducks Unlimited

• Proficient in computer skills

• Expertise in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI

• Experience with complex customer relationship management software

• Demonstrated success in building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents

• Proven track record of soliciting and securing major gifts

• Willingness to work hours beyond the standard workday and workweek throughout the year

• Significant overnight travel required
