This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +6 more locations.
• Provide reliable, decision-oriented guidance that links product sustainability with compliance, innovation, operations, branding, and overall business strategy.
• Take responsibility for client outcomes as well as the quality and commercial success of the projects assigned to you.
• Foster lasting client relationships and transform emerging needs into consulting opportunities.
• Manage medium to large-scale, intricate, multidisciplinary projects that focus on product sustainability, circular economy, sustainable packaging, and product stewardship.
• Convert sustainability commitments and regulatory mandates into actionable strategies for products, packaging, materials, compliance, and implementation.
• Offer expertise in sustainable product design, material selection, life-cycle analysis, circularity, packaging optimization, extended producer responsibility, environmental certifications, and evolving product sustainability regulations.
• Oversee project scope, budgets, schedules, teams, deliverables, and quality while nurturing client relationships and commercial success.
• Distill complex technical, regulatory, and operational data into actionable recommendations, executive-ready reports, presentations, and workshops.
• Establish trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders across sustainability, product development, engineering, supply chain, procurement, operations, regulatory, and legal sectors.
• Identify new opportunities, create proposals, assist in client presentations, expand existing accounts, and contribute to the growth of ERM’s Product Sustainability services.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and collaborate across ERM’s technical communities, industry sectors, and geographical regions.
• Mentor junior and mid-level consultants while contributing to a diverse, inclusive, and high-performing team.
• Enhance ERM methodologies, intellectual capital, and market offerings related to product sustainability.
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, chemistry, materials science, biology, business, supply chain, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Consulting experience is essential.
• 4–6 years of pertinent experience in sustainability consulting, product sustainability, product stewardship, product environmental compliance, sustainable packaging, circular economy, environmental management, product development, supply chain, or a similar area.
• Proven track record of successfully leading complex projects or significant workstreams, including scope, schedule, budget, team coordination, quality, and client deliverables.
• Ability to understand intricate technical and regulatory information and translate it into actionable, business-driven recommendations.
• Excellent client-facing, relationship-building, problem-solving, facilitation, report-writing, and presentation skills.
• Capability to manage multiple priorities independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
• Commitment to high-quality delivery and experience in coaching or mentoring colleagues.
• This role is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
• An advanced degree or relevant professional certification is preferred.
• Experience in leading external consulting engagements and multidisciplinary project teams is preferred.
• Background in sustainable product or packaging strategy, circular design, EPR and packaging regulations, materials sustainability, life-cycle assessment or thinking, product environmental standards/certifications/ecolabels, environmental management systems, product stewardship, sustainability data and claims, or supply-chain sustainability is preferred.
• Experience in integrating environmental or sustainability requirements into product development processes, management systems, or operating models is preferred.
• Experience supporting business development, proposal writing, client presentations, account growth, or new service development is preferred.
• Experience with multinational organizations and senior cross-functional stakeholders is preferred.
