This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Lead the operations of IYR’s Communications team
• Manage daily communications tasks, long-term initiatives, and interdepartmental cooperation
• Create and execute communication strategies that align with the organizational vision, campaigns, programs, and strategic goals
• Convert organizational priorities into communication objectives, audience engagement strategies, channels, timelines, and deliverables
• Identify communication opportunities, risks, and emerging needs throughout the organization
• Maintain the communications calendar for the organization
• Evaluate the effectiveness of communications and suggest enhancements based on engagement data and organizational priorities
• Develop and sustain communication workflows, procedures, and project management practices
• Oversee Asana projects, including timelines, assignments, dependencies, and approvals
• Track project progress, team capacity, competing priorities, and potential risks
• Ensure that communication materials are developed, reviewed, approved, and delivered accurately and punctually
• Manage quality assurance for social media, website content, campaigns, and other digital communications
• Review content for accuracy, accessibility, cultural appropriateness, consistency, and alignment with organizational standards
• Guide social media strategies, content calendars, campaigns, and digital initiatives
• Monitor performance metrics and leverage insights to enhance communication strategies
• Draft, edit, proofread, and refine communication materials
• Collaborate with departments and organizational leadership to develop key messages and communication products
• Uphold brand, voice, accessibility, and communications standards
• Maintain templates, style guides, standards, and communication tools
• Oversee daily operations and priorities of the Communications team
• Supervise direct reports while providing guidance, coaching, feedback, training, advocacy, and performance management
• Facilitate onboarding, professional development, and clarify roles for Communications staff
• Ensure continuity of Communications operations during staff absences or capacity gaps
• Evaluate and suggest enhancements to team processes, practices, tools, and resource requirements
• Promote a collaborative and accountable team culture
• Participate in staff meetings, working groups, committees, regional gatherings, and community engagement events
• Engage with the Indigenous community to foster relationship-building and collaboration
• Adhere to health, safety, ethical, cultural, and organizational standards
• Be available for in-person engagements as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in external communications, public relations, strategic communications, or a related field
• At least 3 years’ experience in leadership positions, including staff supervision or management
• Proficient knowledge of Asana or similar project management software, particularly in managing workflows, timelines, assignments, and dependencies
• Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or similar professional design software
• Capability to make basic content adjustments and support communication deliverables as necessary
• Experience in supporting internal communications is advantageous
• Familiarity with integrating data or audience insights into communications is beneficial
• Experience working with Indigenous youth and communities is a plus
• Bilingual proficiency in French and English is an asset
• Availability for in-person engagements with reasonable notice
• Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, business administration, or a related field is considered an asset
