This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers working on MetricFlow, encompassing hiring, onboarding, career progression, performance management, and daily support.
• Take ownership of the Semantic Layer team's delivery by planning, prioritizing, executing, and ensuring the reliable release of high-quality software.
• Collaborate with senior and staff engineers to establish technical direction regarding metric definitions, query compilation, dimensional modeling, and SQL generation for various data warehouses.
• Act as a steward for MetricFlow as an open-source initiative by addressing issues, reviewing external pull requests, managing releases, and engaging with the community on GitHub and Slack.
• Work alongside engineering leaders across the dbt platform, dbt Core, and the Semantic Layer service.
• Collaborate with product, design, and developer relations teams to transform customer and community feedback into a structured roadmap.
• Promote engineering excellence in performance, reliability, and observability of metric query execution at scale.
• Encourage the creation of design documentation, thoughtful code reviews, and sustainable engineering practices.
• Proven experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management, with a history of delivering production systems.
• Strong engineering background with experience in developing and releasing production software.
• Capability to engage effectively on architecture and technical trade-offs with a senior engineering team.
• Familiarity with SQL fundamentals.
• Understanding of analytical query engines and the execution of queries in data warehouses.
• Experience with parsing, compilation, or transformation systems, such as query planners, DSL compilers, type systems, or rule-based engines.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, including clean APIs, modularity, testability, and backward compatibility.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
