This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Lead the AI/ML engineering team focused on optimizing payment routing, improving authorization rates, and developing AI-driven digital workforce systems.
• Manage a team of approximately 7–8 engineers specializing in ML, backend, and platform development.
• Provide guidance on architectural decisions and help remove obstacles for the team while maintaining technical involvement.
• Take ownership of team delivery by scoping, costing, and sequencing various initiatives.
• Recruit, nurture, and retain engineering talent; oversee performance evaluations and career advancement.
• Mentor engineers through technical designs, code assessments, architecture reviews, and decision-making processes.
• Establish benchmarks for code quality, testing procedures, and CI/CD practices.
• Oversee the lifecycle architecture of ML models, including training, evaluation, monitoring, and retraining.
• Direct workflows for LLM, agent orchestration, RAG pipelines, and integrations with vector databases.
• Supervise inference services for active payment routing, ensuring low latency and high reliability.
• Ensure that AWS infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, dashboards, tracing, and on-call runbooks adhere to high standards.
• Apply PCI-DSS and data management principles to systems handling payment data.
• Convert product vision into a detailed technical roadmap.
• Collaborate closely with product, operations, and modeling leadership.
• Communicate team progress and challenges to leadership.
• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering.
• 2-3 years of experience in a leadership role managing engineers.
• Extensive experience in developing and deploying backend and/or ML systems at scale.
• Preferably, experience in fintech, payments, or another regulated, latency-sensitive sector.
• Proven track record in hiring, developing, and retaining an engineering team.
• Hands-on experience with contemporary AI/ML systems, including model training and deployment, LLM-powered workflows, agents, RAG, and orchestration.
• Practical experience with LLM-based systems in a production environment.
• Strong and proactive communication skills with teams and cross-functional partners.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Familiarity with Go, Python, gRPC, REST APIs, event streaming, distributed systems, AWS, Terraform, ML frameworks, LLM tools, vector databases, PCI-DSS, observability tools, and payment integrations.
